Get More Vitamin D, The Sunshine Vitamin

Outdoor activities and exercise improve your fitness, but the benefits don’t end there. Vitamin D, which you get from the sun, performs many important functions and getting outside on a regular basis is the best way absorb it.

In addition to boosting your vitamin D, many benefits can be derived from a more active outdoors lifestyle. Even a brisk walk or bike ride for 45 minutes a day is plenty. Just be sure to wear sunscreen to protect your skin when in the sun longer than 15 minutes, especially at our high elevation.

Why Vitamin D Matters

Absorbing natural Vitamin D is an extremely beneficial aspect of outdoor activity. The main way vitamin D is introduced to the human body is through the skin via the ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun. Vitamin D can help maintain healthy and strong bones, which is something it does in combination with calcium.

There are also compelling studies linking vitamin D with reducing the risk of the onset of certain cancers. The study is compiled from a selection of previously published material and it includes a blunt conclusion from the researchers at the University of California, who have criticized medical communities and public health authorities for not adopting the use of vitamin D as a preventative measure earlier.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is also vital. Around one liter of water, a day is taken through the foods eaten within the diet, and it is recommended that at least another liter should be drunk on top of this every day. For optimum health benefits, however, it is recommended that a person should consume 6 to 8 large glasses of water daily.

Drinking water can prevent headaches and migraines often caused by dehydration. Water also helps to regulate temperature, flush toxins  from the body and assist in regulating blood flow and blood pressure, making it particularly important for the heart.

Choose the Right Foods

A rich variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, along with healthy carbohydrates, is highly beneficial for those who wish to gain the advantages of a healthy lifestyle. Choose fruit or berries high in antioxidants to strengthen the immune system and improve overall health.
