Utah Locals Score Discounted Lessons for Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month in January

If you’re living in Utah but haven’t learned to ski or snowboard—January is the month to learn. Utah offers cheap lessons, rentals, and lift tickets for its annual Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month, making it an ideal way for first-time skiers to get started.

Alta Ski Area

The Learn to Ski Program is a great way for first-time skiers (children and adults) to get started in skiing. You can participate in this package up to four times. This pay-as-you-go program can be completed anytime during the season (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only), but you must register by January 31. Holiday blackouts January 18–20 and February 15–22, 2019.

Price: $60 per day for two-hour lesson and rental plus $25 non-refundable registration fee.

How To Redeem: Choose 4 days of discounted lessons and rental packages. Enrollment is limited and reservations are required. Call 801-799-2271 to make a reservation. Purchase discounted lift ticket as needed ($25). Receive Sunnyside @ 3 Card when 4 days completed.

Beaver Mountain

Get a first-time beginner lesson and lift ticket good January 3–January 31. Not valid January 19–21 (Holiday weekend).

Price: $45 for beginner day pass, lesson, and rentals.

Brian Head

Heading south for winter? Brian Head is offering a $49 Learn To Ski And Snowboard Package January 7–31, 2019 for first-time skiers or snowboarders (ages 13 and up). Not valid January 19–21, 2019. Lessons begin at 10:00 a.m. or 1:30 pm MST. Arrive 30 minutes prior to lesson start time to get fitted with rental equipment.

Price: $49 + tax and includes 2.5-hour lesson, limited access lift ticket, and rental equipment.

Brighton Resort

Beginning January 7, Brighton is offering Learn to Ski or Snowboard packages for $49. Available mid-week. Not valid Saturdays and Sundays or Monday, January 21. Ages 13 and up. Please arrive 30–60 minutes before the lesson. For first-time skiers and snowboarders.

Price: $49 full-day learner lift ticket, full day rental, and two-hour lesson.

How To Redeem: MUST REGISTER ONLINEGroup lessons available daily Monday thru Friday at 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

Deer Valley Resort

The Learn to Ski Program is valid one day only in 2019: Saturday, January 26 and is for first-time local skiers. Lesson begins at 12:45 and ends at 4 p.m. Participants must be 13 years of age or older.

Price: $49 package includes lesson, lift ticket, ski rental equipment, and a locker/basket check storage.

How To Redeem: Reservations must be made prior to January 26, 2019, by calling Deer Valley Resort at 435-645-6648, referring to “Ski Utah Learn to Ski Program”. Cancellations must be made before 5 p.m. (MST), two days prior to the start of the program or fee of $49 per participant will be charged.

Nordic Valley

The Learn to Ski Program is for first-time Skiers/Snowboarders and includes first-time lesson, lift ticket, and ski rental. Lessons available Monday–Friday at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. January 7–31, 2019. Participants must be 5 years or older for Ski Lesson or 8 years or older Snowboard. NOT VALID on Saturdays, Sundays or Martin Luther King Day, January 21.

Price: $49 for 2-hour group lesson, lift ticket, ski rental equipment.

Powder Mountain

Learn to ski or snowboard in January with an all-inclusive skiing or snowboarding lesson for first timers offered January 2–31, 2019. Not valid January 18–21, 2019. For ages 13 and up.

Price: $49 includes equipment rentals, lift pass, and three hours of instruction.

First timers looking to learn in the Ogden area can get a Lower Mountain ticket, all-day lesson, and rental equipment any weekday in January. For ages 13 and up.

Price: $69 for lift ticket, lesson, and rental equipment.

How To Redeem: Must be booked online. Check the schedule to see if a Beginner Lesson for that date is available. 


Learn to ski at Snowbird with the Learn a Snowsport program, which is designed specifically for first-time skiers and riders. Lessons start at 1 p.m. and last for 2.5 hours. For ages 16 and over. Offered Monday–Thursday from January 2–31, 2019. Not valid January 18–21, 2019 (MLK Weekend).

Price: $50 (Bounce-back rates available). Includes lift ticket, lesson, and rental equipment.

Solitude Mountain Resort

Utah residents can learn to ski or snowboard at Solitude January 7–18 or January 22–31. Available for local Utah first-time skiers and snowboarders age 7 or older. Lesson time 1:00–3:30 p.m.

Price: $49 package includes a lesson, lift ticket, and rental equipment.

How To Redeem: Reserve your lesson by calling Solitude Mountain Resort at 801-536-5730 and referring to the “Ski Utah Learn to Ski and Snowboard Program.” Must cancel before 4:30 p.m. one day prior to program or no-show/cancellation fee of $49 per participant will be charged.

Sundance Mountain Resort

Learn to ski at Sundance in January with this package offered on January Tuesdays: January 8, 15, 22, 29. (Lesson time is from 10:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) For Utah residents ages 8 and up learning to ski or snowboard for the first time.

Price: $49 for full-day lift ticket, full-day rental (basic rental package), and a 2.5-hour morning lesson.
