New Hyatt Regency Opens in Salt Lake City

Hyatt Regency is now open in Downtown Salt Lake City, and it’s opening brings new energy and hip, modern vibes to the growing city center.

Attached to the Salt Palace Cpnvention Center, it appeals to the Outdoor Retailer crowd returning to Salt Lake City next week. It will play host to a media event on Monday, January 9 and countless other OR events.

We attended the grand opening and were dazzled by the luxurious lobby of this 26-story tower with fancy features like two massive ballrooms, a grand lobby with a market and car, outdoor pool, three restaurants and a sixth-floor terrace.

For outdoor retailers, PR pros, and media looking to honk on, we love the lobby cocktail lounge area called Contribution Lounge. It’s huge ground-floor windows open onto 200 South near the Salt Palace and give you a glimpse at the action going on outside.

Also in the lobby is  lobby The Salt Republic, an American bistro, and up

On the sixth floor rooftop is Mar | Muntanya, a tapas restaurant from northern Spain.

The hotel also features The Market, a 24-hour destination for coffee, breakfast, and grab-and-go eats. Our experience focuses on Mar | Muntanya, as we dined there just a few weeks ago. The experience was akin to a big city feast and showed just how far Salt Lake has come.

Upon arrival, we started with a signature winter spiced gin and tonic and an old fashioned. From here we dabbled with classic appetizers like tomato toast and the more unique BLAMK soup.

For entrees, we enjoyed the beautiful presentation and ingredient pairings of the slow-cooked sea bass and the Striploin paired with chimichurri. But what we loved most we did not even order.

The chef brought out a huge platter of Wagyu meat from Australia, and though I’m typically a vegetarian, I enjoyed a couple slices of it. My husband was elated and devoured much more. This special dish came paired with homemade mustards and sauces and was our favorite dish of the night. If it’s on the menu when you visit, it’s a must order.

Despite being stuffed, we saved room for freshly baked churros paired with chocolate and caramel sauce for dessert. These hot churros wowed us and we devoured all of them. All in all the meal, ambience, and staff were incredible. We’ll surely return again, but next time it will be for Wednesday nights when you can catch performers flamenco dancing.

The terrace where Mar | Muntanya is based also boasts the hotel pool and an outdoor dining area that can also be rented out. I definitely imagine it will be popular for summer Outdoor Retailer!
