Letter from the Editor – Keeper 2016

0

If you’ve been training for a big race, getting suddenly injured is tough. This January I caught an edge on my snowboard and slid into a tree, spraining my ankle. I knew fast that I wouldn’t be running again soon. “Luckily, I have a great doctor (shout out to Dr. Kick who wrote the runner’s knee story on pg. 14) and PT team helping me get running again. This includes a combo of early morning sessions on a treadmill in a swimming pool, physical therapy, and plenty of at-home exercises. My new 2016 racing goal: Utah 5Ks by April and running Broad Street, America’s largest 10-mile road race with over 40,000 participants, this May in Philadelphia.

Whatever your racing goals are this year, make our 2016 Keeper—Utah’s biggest race calendar—your go-to guide to choosing from over 600 events! This issue also features stories on Utah’s best half marathons, training, injury treatment and prevention, runner profiles, and reviews of the year’s best racing gear and running shoes. Happy racing!
