2011 Keeper Editor’s Note

Editor Pic Why do we love racing? It’s expensive, painful and exhausting, but something motivates us to plan our race calendar each year, sign up for a few events and spend months training, excitedly anticipating race day. For me, be it a 5K or full marathon, crossing the finish line is a glorious rush that is rarely found in everyday life. I love the thrill of racing; challenging myself to accomplish goals that once seemed impossible, all while getting stronger with each trai ning session. (Even if that strength comes in the form of sore, tired muscles.)

Why do you race? Send us an email with your reasons to editor@sportsguidemag.com or post a message on Outdoor Sports Guide Magazine’s Facebook page and you’ll be entered to win a TMAT Pro Triathlon Transition Mat!

T Mat Pro This mat helps you transition quickly and is available in bright colors and patterns so you can easily spot your gear in the crowded transition area. The neoprene fabric makes drying your feet a breeze, and it rolls up smaller than a foot-long sub. Learn more at tmatpro.com. Deadline for entry is August 31, 2011.

But that’s not all we’re giving away in our annual Keeper issue! Check out our Facebook Fan Giveaway for a chance to score some tasty grub. The Keeper also has great race-centric stories on recovering from a marathon, unique local races, a first-time triathlete’s experience and Utah’s most comprehensive event calendar. I hope this calendar inspires you to try a new event this season. I’ll be competing in my first triathlon and am excited—and nervous—for this new experience!

For whatever races fill your calendar this year, I wish you a season without stumbles, flat tires, stomach cramps or that dreaded horse named Charley.
